Live school visibility

Student movement visibility that supports duty of care

LeaveLens gives authorised staff a clearer view of students who are currently recorded as out of class, how long they have been away and which lesson they left.

Current movement view

See students with an active classroom exit rather than relying on messages between individual teachers.

Time-away context

Review when the student left and how long the active movement has remained open.

Role-based access

Teachers, coordinators and leaders receive information aligned with their responsibilities.

Follow-up evidence

Historical records help staff distinguish an isolated event from a recurring supervision concern.

The visibility gap during lessons

A school may know that a student attended the lesson, but not that the student has been outside the classroom for an extended period. The classroom teacher may know the student left, while another staff member supervising a corridor, office or support area may have no access to that context.

LeaveLens creates a shared, authorised record of lesson-time movement. It can show that a student left a particular class at a particular time and has not yet been recorded as returned. This supports faster, more informed follow-up where the school’s procedures require it.

How LeaveLens can support supervision

Movement is recorded

The classroom teacher records the student leaving the scheduled lesson.

The active exit is visible

Authorised staff can see the current record according to their role and school access.

The school applies its procedure

Staff decide when an extended absence or contextual concern requires follow-up.

The return closes the record

The completed movement remains available for appropriate historical review.

Practical duty-of-care scenarios
Information for different school roles

Classroom and local context

  • Teachers record and review movement for their students and classes.
  • Current active exits support immediate classroom awareness.
  • Class-level history helps teachers identify repeated disruption.

Leadership and coordination context

  • Coordinators can review house or year-level patterns.
  • Heads of department can review subject and faculty impact.
  • Executives can access broader live and analytical views.
  • Administrators can configure access and school settings.

The objective is not to expose every record to every staff member. Access should reflect the school’s governance model and each user’s legitimate responsibilities.

Important boundaries

LeaveLens supports duty of care, but no software can replace a school’s policies, staff supervision or professional response. It should operate alongside:

Visibility supports a decision; it does not make the decision.

The school determines what duration, combination of circumstances or student context requires action.

Privacy and proportionality

Duty-of-care visibility should be balanced with data minimisation. LeaveLens can show who left, when they left and when they returned without requiring a detailed reason for every ordinary movement.

Where a student’s movement relates to health, disability, wellbeing or another sensitive matter, the detailed explanation should remain within the school’s authorised specialist records. The movement platform can retain the operational time record without unnecessarily duplicating private information.
